If you love natural fibres and exceptionally soft, refined knitwear, Adriafil Sierra Andina is a yarn worth discovering. Sierra Andina is made from 100% extra fine alpaca. Alpaca fibre has a naturally hollow structure that helps retain warmth while remaining lightweight and breathable. Its natural thermal and thermoregulating properties make it particularly comfortable for warm garments and accessories. Adriafil states that its alpaca fibre is shorn once a year in spring, with the timing of shearing supporting both animal wellbeing and fleece quality. The fibre is selected from certified and eco-sustainable farms.

A soft alpaca yarn for refined projects

Sierra Andina contains 133 m / 145 yds per 50 g and is recommended for 3.5 mm knitting needles. The standard gauge is approximately 22 stitches × 30 rows per 10 × 10 cm. It is particularly well suited to: soft sweaters, cardigans, shawls and wraps, scarves and hats, elegant accessories, delicate baby garments.

Naturally lanolin-free

Alpaca fibre does not contain lanolin. Adriafil highlights this as one of the advantages of alpaca compared with sheep's wool. However, being lanolin-free does not mean that alpaca is automatically suitable for every person with a wool allergy or sensitivity.

Sierra Andina colours

The yarn is available in a broad palette ranging from black, white, cream, beige and grey to natural melanges and more expressive pink, purple, red, green and blue shades. The current Adriafil colour card contains several dozen colour numbers.

Care

Alpaca is a delicate natural fibre and should be treated gently. Hand washing is recommended for Sierra Andina. Avoid tumble drying and dry the finished garment flat to help maintain its shape.
